Has CES gone too far to be saved? Sights and Trends from CES 2020!

This year’s CES wasn’t as surprising as I hoped it was going to be. However, that’s not to say there were no surprises at all and there’s still a bunch of cool tech that you get to experience at the show, whether expected or unexpected. Whether or not we need to be saved from the promise of 5G and 8K is something else altogether, but clearly major themes of this year’s show. If you didn’t make it and even if you did, here’s our recap of some highlights from CES 2020, with the help of our favorite media outlets to dive deeper into 7 categories we’ve outlined including the good, bad, ugly and more…

TST FAVORITE

Only because we love fitness so much, we picked the Amazfit HomeStudio treadmill as one of the best innovations at CES 2020. With a 42” vertical screen the Amazfit is a completely immersive experience, you can be in your bathroom and feel like you’re in the perfect workout spot (that may be taking it too far) Huami has done everything they can to create the full experience (and at ~$5K, it better be). Whether you’re willing to pay the price tag is another question, but if your favorite gym has one of these coming you better get on the list sooner than later.

THE GIGANTIC

Samsung Booth Movie of 8K screens

While the Samsung and LG battle for 8K is quite ridiculous, I have never seen such an amazing screen resolution in my life. I would almost rather look at the screens than go outside. The clarity, color, and dimension of these screens are unparalleled and so real…they look…well…fake. I remember seeing the 4K setup in years past and being amazed by that as well. And while I wasn’t particularly looking forward to seeing 8K, as I stood directly in front of the Samsung booth the visuals were undeniably amazing.

THE OBVIOUS

AI was a key theme at CES 2020. Didn’t we already know this about five years ago? There is no mystery that AI was a major theme, as more and more companies (big and small) integrate AI components into their business model, we keep hearing about the concept and application of AI. We get it, everything is AI, but let’s move on to things we can see, feel and play with.

THE INNOVATIVE LIFESAVER

Why depend on yourself to brush your teeth, when your toothbrush will probably do it better? You don’t have to wait long to get the Y-brush and brush your teeth perfectly, every time, in 10 seconds. The best news is that you’ll be able to get this as soon as March 2020.

THE FUN STUFF

I’ve always been personally interested in kids tech, more so now that I’m a mom. I would be remiss if I didn’t include our client Thinker-Tinker as one of the cool, fun things presented at this year’s CES. A finalist at Last Gadget Standing and featured on NBC’s CES coverage, Thinker-Tinker launched Octobo, the first interactive plush robot at CES 2020, with adorable emotional and tactile interactions aiming to change the way kids interact with screens. I’m really excited to get Octobo to my kids.

THE FUTURE

via The Independent

If you haven’t heard about the Samsung Baille by now, you must be living under a rock. A cool new way to have a smart assistant is this little Droid (crazy right?) that follows you around to help you and your smart home be more efficient. He’s like a little futuristic companion that helps you get everything you need to get done. For me, I find this perfect, because now (hopefully) I won’t just be talking to myself when making my to-do lists.

THE SCANDALOUS

Lora DiCarlo made headlines last year when it’s innovation award was revoked and banned from CES and the woman-owned company lobbied for sexual wellness products to be allowed at the show. This year,  the company’s Osé personal massager was able to take center stage and create shock and awe at this typically straight-laced showcase when successfully lobbied for sexual health devices to be included at CES. In year’s past, it was well known that the Adult Entertainment Show followed CES by just a week, this year’s show boasted several sexual wellness companies exhibiting loud and proud with their tech and finally being allowed at the BIG show.

And…since we can’t always get to everything in a quick blog or in a week of tedious walking around Vegas, check out this video from TechRepublic on the business tech that includes all the big AI, 5G and a recap on Wi-Fi 6.

Last but not least, this post wouldn’t be complete without a nod to all the BEST OF CES AWARD WINNERS from our friends at Digital Trends.
