It’s not too late to connect with journalists at CES
CES is just around the corner and it’s not too late to connect with journalists before the big show hits. In fact, while you’re at the show there are a few tips and tricks that we use to gain attention while at the show. Here are some things you can still do to optimize your media presence at CES this year.
- Download the media list and find the most relevant contacts for your business. If you’re an exhibitor you can gain access to the media list on your exhibitor portal. If you aren’t an exhibitor but want to connect with the media. Email us to create and send you a customized CES media list.
- Prepare your press kit Make it easy to access your materials well in advance of the show and share with the media that you want to cover you. Despite the 1000’s of journalists that are attending, there are also journalists that are at their desks away from CES that are waiting to file stories of the latest show news. Providing easy access to assets can make a big difference in show coverage.
- Upload your press kit to the CES portal – If you’re an exhibitor you should have access to your exhibitor portal. Make sure you upload your press kit there and add a PR contact so that you can get the benefit of any media that look you up on the app.
- Send your news to relevant media ASAP – Make sure you don’t want too long to send your news to relevant media. Trust me that once you’re on the show floor email goes out the window for many reasons. Get your press releases to the right media today and tomorrow, make sure you include your booth information so they know where to look.
- Watch out for Media badges at the show – Media always have a specific badge color at CES. Watch out for it and keep your eyes peeled for media wandering around your booth. If they are near and seem to be looking around, it’s the perfect opportunity to grab their attention and tell them about your product.
Overall be accessible for media questions. If you can host information like your press kit and FAQ’s on your site, our recommendation is to do it, so there’s not a lot of fumbling around. Imagine live posting every day from a show the size of 10 football fields.
If you do come across friendly media, don’t be afraid to offer a freebie, water, chapstick or even to charge their phone while they listen about your product. I’m sure they will thank you for it and remember you later when it comes time to write their roundup.
